Sarah Kramer is a vegan superstar; she was named “The World’s Coolest Vegan” by Herbivore Magazine, and her first three cookbooks have sold a combined total of over two hundred thousand copies. Vegan a Go-Go! represents a change of pace for Sarah: it is a cookbook and more for vegan travelers, many of whom are daunted by the idea of going on the road and being able to locate and/or prepare the kind of nutritious animal-free meals they enjoy at home. Vegan a Go-Go!: A Cookbook & Survival Manual for Vegans on the Road

Biggest deficiency – besides horrible illustrations of defaced human skin – would be NO (ZILCH) discussion of a vegan diet in health optimization. Some of her ingredients are anything but life-enhancing. Some are downright HORRIBLE (An answer to a heart surgeon’s prayer high fat concoctions). I see no nutritional analysis accompanying any of her entries. For starters, it would be good to see macronutrient summaries for each entry. E.g % of calories from protein, fat, and carbs. None of my life style gurus are mentioned anywhere. I have hundreds of books and more than a few cookbooks. My favorite authors write a lot about science and do not feel obliged to be “cute” as one reviewer considered Kramer.
Appearances aren’t everything, BUT massive skin defacement images may keep newcomers away from even considering a vegan DIET. Too bad.
Not fair – but that’s the way the world works.

I have all of Sarah’s cookbooks, and they are the first ones I always reach for when I’m looking for new recipes or old favorites. This little cookbook is little, but it holds a lot. It’s designed to be small so you can take it with you when you travel, so that you have your favorite recipes from her other books with you. There are all my favorites, plus some new recipes, and space in the back to write down any of your other favorites that weren’t printed. Another winner.

“Vegan A Go-Go!” is Sarah Kramer’s latest vegan tome. Except this is the size of one of those little inspirational pocket books. It’s supposed to be convenient for traveling–if you have access to a kitchen,or have a motor home. If you don’t,that’s bad luck. Kramer has recipes for nut cheeses, vegan stews and desserts, and tries to keep it simple. She uses the easiest recipes possible. Thankfully, she doesn’t call for Irish moss or Himalayan salt like some vegans do.
“Vegan A Go-Go!” has a fun retro look. Sarah Kramer has as many tats as Amy Winehouse, but she’s cleaner. The only shocking thing she’s done has been starring in the “Vag–a Monologues.” So,she’s not going to rehab anytime soon because she’s too busy drinking down soy milk smoothies and freshly squeezed juices.
“Vegan A Go-Go!” is supposed to make traveling simpler for vegans. Unfortunately,Kramer doesn’t list restaurants that offer vegan options. She assumes people will cook on the road. Try asking for a veggie burger at a truck stop in Iowa. And those corn chowders tend to contain milk–from cows.
“Vegan A Go-Go!” has fun recipes, but it’s not as practical as Kramer intends it to be. Bon appetit!

Thank you Sarah Kramer for such a great cookbook! I use this book often, as I am quite lazy and like to make things that taste great but don’t take a lot of effort! I have given this book as a gift, and the person loved it! I especially love the wacky cake recipe, it has impressed people on multiple occasions. The size of it is also perfect because you can throw it in your bag and take it to the grocery store instead of copying everything out of a cookbook. I also like that Sarah has included some tried and true recipes from her other cookbooks, so I don’t have to go flipping through for recipes. Highly recommended!

This book is a life saver. Even when I am in the city trying new things, the tips are always helpful. Being stuck in new places traveling at times can be daunting, but this book helps a lot. The tips and simple recipes make it a lot easier to stay nourished. There aren’t many scientific facts in this vegan book, but when it comes to staying alive while traveling, who is really going to piss and moan about calories and fat? If you are interested in the healthful aspect of things and the “science” of it all, you really need to just use your best judgment. It is a great book. I am a girl who tends to fit whole books in her bag and then wonder why she has a headache at the end of the day, so this baby-book comes in handy. The stamps inside that indicate which recipes will need special ingredients and which are more impressive for say, family, are wonderful because you know what you are getting into. I was so thrilled when this baby came in the mail and I am thrilled to have it with me at all times.
