  1. I juice almost daily, and I’ve tried a variety of juice recipes from different sources. This book has some of the most delicious juice recipes I’ve found, and all are super easy to make. The addition of sparkling water to the “fizz” drinks makes them a great substitute for sodas, and the recipes for these are terrific, in my opinion.

The authors presented the recipes in the context of specific ailments, so the book is organized by ailment, and each ailment has a set of recipes that will prevent or ameliorate it. This arrangement necessitates some duplication of recipes, because several of the recipes are good for a number of conditions. The alternative, though, would have been to simply list the recipes for each ailment and then make the reader go to a separate recipe section for each one. The way the authors did it makes it more convenient to use, because once you find the ailment you want to address, all the recipes are right there together, along with other valuable information.

Many of the juicing recipes I’ve tried from other sources are healthful without being tremendously good-tasting. The ones I’ve tried from this book have all been really delicious so far. I can’t wait to try more. I have not hit one yet that I didn’t love. I’m really glad I got this book! I was getting bored with the few recipes I liked, none of which are as good as the ones in here.

If you’re interested in trying juicing, start with this book, because these recipes are more likely to induce you to stay with it.

  2. Basic juicing questions are answered in the first section of this book, which focuses almost entirely on physical ailments. For each malady, the author gives general recommendations, dietary modifications, “nutrients that help,” and beneficial juices.

At the end of the book, the author offers several dietary plans (sugar metabolism disorder, immune support, elimination diet, cleansing diets, and a basic diet). For each plan, there’s a sample menu and dietary guidelines to follow. I really appreciated the inclusion of the cleansing diets because the author includes a juice fast plan. None of the other juicing books I’ve read bothered to make the effort to even touch upon juice fasting, which is what I was really interested in. So, I was really happy this author took the time to work it into her book.

Although this book is a good resource, I only gave it three stars because, compared to other juicing books I’ve read, it fell short. While it offered information for certain ailments in depth, I think it could have benefited from a section that simply featured some basic juicing recipes. A less structured format for a portion, I think, would have made this book more appealing to a wider audience.
